Safeguarding
55. The school’s safeguarding arrangements are effective and reflect the requirements of current
statutory guidance.
56. An appropriately trained safeguarding team ensures that staff have a thorough understanding of the
school’s safeguarding processes and are confident about procedures to follow should a potential
safeguarding concern arise. Staff understand their responsibilities and recognise the importance of
reporting any concerns in a timely manner.
57. Leaders with designated safeguarding responsibilities respond to concerns effectively. They liaise
well with external agencies to seek advice and, when appropriate, refer safeguarding concerns. The
safeguarding team keep appropriate records of any concerns and the decisions and actions taken in
response to them.
58. Leaders, staff and proprietors are appropriately trained at least annually, including regular updates
at staff meetings and training sessions. New staff members receive effective safeguarding training as
part of their induction programme. Staff undertake appropriate training about the ‘Prevent’ duty. As
a result, they are aware of the school’s appropriate policy and procedures for mitigating risks of
radicalisation and extremism.
59. Leaders ensure that the pupils are taught how to keep themselves safe. This includes planned and
regular online safety lessons each year which, together with an appropriate internet filtering system,
contribute to supporting pupils’ safety when online.
60. Staff have a clear understanding of their responsibilities under the school’s code of conduct. They
understand the whistleblowing policy and school’s safeguarding procedures, including those relating
to allegations against staff, and are confident to use them.
61. Staff listen carefully to the views of pupils. Pupils feel able to share concerns with adults or the pupil
listeners appointed in each class.
62. The single central record of appointments is well maintained. All appropriate pre-employment
recruitment checks are carried out and recorded. Leaders are appropriately trained in safer
recruitment and take a key role in the recruitment of new staff.
63. The proprietors regularly review the school’s safeguarding work to ensure that everyone follows
appropriate procedures whenever safeguarding concerns arise. For example, a review of any
safeguarding concerns is a standing item on the proprietors’ fortnightly meetings with the
headteachers and the safeguarding team.
